Zachary Athekame joins Lyon from AC Milan on loan
Lyon have added Zachary Athekame to their squad on loan from AC Milan, with the move confirmed on 13 August 2026. The defender arrives having featured regularly across multiple competitions over the past year.
The switch gives Lyon another option in defence as they continue into the early rounds of the season, with the club having already been busy on the European front through their Champions League play-off tie against Fenerbahçe.
A busy year across club and country
Athekame made 41 competitive appearances in 2025, totalling 1,402 minutes and two goals across his commitments. The bulk of that workload came in Serie A with AC Milan, where he played 27 times for 850 minutes.
He also featured for Switzerland's U21 side in UEFA U21 Championship qualification, making eight appearances for 292 minutes, while a spell with BSC Young Boys in the Super League brought four appearances and 210 minutes. Cup football added further minutes, with one outing apiece in the Coppa Italia and the Italian Super Cup.
