Stuttgart open Champions League campaign against unbeaten Viking
VfB Stuttgart begin their UEFA Champions League league-stage campaign at home to Viking, with the opening matchday fixture set for the MHPArena on 9 September.
Both clubs arrive with contrasting patterns of recent results but an identical tally of wins over their last five outings, having claimed three victories apiece in that period.
Form guide
Stuttgart's recent sequence has swung between highs and lows, with wins and defeats alternating across their last five matches, most recently signing off with a victory.
Viking, by contrast, have avoided defeat altogether in their last five, mixing three wins with two draws to arrive in Germany unbeaten in that stretch.
What's at stake
An opening-day result carries added significance in the league-stage format, where an early win can ease the pressure of the fixtures still to come.
With both sides equally successful in their recent matches, the meeting looks evenly poised heading into kick-off.
