Serie A table shows no clear leader as Roma share top spot
Roma occupy first place in Serie A after five matches, though the league table shows them with no cushion over whoever sits closest behind them at the top.
It is the latest instalment of a picture this column has tracked for much of the past week, with the gap at the summit having narrowed from a slender advantage to nothing at all.
With Roma level on points at the top, the coming rounds carry extra weight for a club looking to turn a share of first place into outright control of the table.
For now, the early-season placing offers Roma a marker rather than a cushion, and the next set of fixtures will show whether they can push back in front or be overtaken.
