Nico González joins Newcastle from Manchester City
Newcastle have added to their squad with the signing of midfielder Nico González from Manchester City, confirmed on 24 August 2026, the club's second addition in a matter of days after the arrival of defender Amar Dedić from Benfica.
A busy year on the pitch
González arrives having been a regular fixture in City's rotation throughout 2025, making 44 appearances across all competitive competitions and logging 2,590 minutes. The bulk of that workload came in the Premier League, where he featured 25 times for 1,575 minutes, though he also saw significant European action with eight Champions League appearances totalling 410 minutes.
He contributed further minutes in the League Cup and FA Cup, with four appearances in each competition, and also featured once at the FIFA Club World Cup. Internationally, he has represented Spain's under-21 side twice in qualification for the UEFA U21 Championship, though without minutes on the pitch in those outings.
What he brings to Newcastle
Two goals from his 44 appearances in 2025 suggest a midfielder valued more for his consistency and squad utility than for a heavy goal return, and Newcastle will hope his experience of high-level competitive football, gained across four different competitions with City, translates into fresh options in the middle of the pitch as the new season gets under way.
