John Stones has left Manchester City to join Inter on a free transfer, the move confirmed on 29 July 2026. The defender arrives at his new club without a fee changing hands after his time at the Etihad Stadium came to an end.

A reduced role in his final year

Stones featured sparingly for Manchester City across 2025, making 21 competitive appearances in total and totalling 1,154 minutes on the pitch. His most regular game time came in the Premier League, where he played nine matches for 449 minutes, while he also featured four times in the UEFA Champions League for 343 minutes.

He added further appearances in the FA Cup, League Cup and FIFA Club World Cup, though his involvement in the latter competition was limited to unused substitute appearances across three matchday squads. He did not score in any competitive fixture during the year.

A new chapter at Inter

The move brings Stones into Inter's defensive ranks as the club continues its preparations ahead of the new season. With pre-season underway across Europe, the transfer window remains busy, and Stones will now look to establish himself in a new environment after a period of restricted opportunities in Manchester.
