1899 Hoffenheim will host Hamburger SV at the PreZero Arena in Sinsheim on 10 October, as the Bundesliga reaches its fifth matchday of the season. Neither side arrives in convincing shape, with both looking to arrest recent slides in results.

Hoffenheim have won just once in their last five outings, a run reading LLWLL, while Hamburger SV have fared marginally better with two wins from their last five, following a WLLLW sequence. In terms of results across those matches, Hamburger SV hold a slight edge with two wins to Hoffenheim's one.

History favours the hosts

The two sides have met five times in recent years, and Hoffenheim have won three of those encounters. Their most recent meeting, in April 2026, saw Hoffenheim come from behind away from home to win 2-1, while in December 2025 they thrashed Hamburger SV 4-1 on home soil.

Hamburger SV's two victories in the fixture both date back further, with wins in November 2017 and April 2017. Hoffenheim also won a 2018 meeting 2-0, giving them the stronger overall record between the two clubs.

With both teams struggling for consistency this season, matchday five offers a chance for either to build some momentum. Hoffenheim's recent record against Hamburger SV will offer some encouragement, but their current form suggests nothing can be taken for granted at the PreZero Arena.
