Beşiktaş began their Europa League league-stage campaign with a 4-1 win over Marseille at Tüpraş Stadium in Istanbul, putting the match to bed with a burst of goals after the break.

Fakili opened the scoring for the hosts after 15 minutes, only for Abdallah to level for Marseille just before the half-hour mark. The sides went in level at half-time, with the tie still finely poised.

Černý strike turns the game

Černý restored Beşiktaş's lead in the 56th minute, and that goal proved to be the decisive one, taking the home side back in front for good. Murillo added a third only three minutes later, and by that point the outcome of the contest was no longer in doubt.

Poku, who had come on as a 71st-minute substitute for the scorer Černý, put the finishing touch on the scoreline with a goal in the 81st minute to make it 4-1.

Comfortable margin reflected in the numbers

Beşiktaş's dominance was underlined by the shot count, with the hosts registering seven shots on target to Marseille's three across the match. Substitute Miretti, introduced for Fakili late on, was booked shortly after coming on, but it did little to disturb the home side's control of proceedings.

The result gives Beşiktaş a strong start to their league-stage campaign in the competition, while Marseille will look to respond in their next fixture.
