Bayern München lead the Bundesliga without any points cushion
Bayern München occupy first place in the Bundesliga table after six league matches, but the margin separating them from the chasing pack is as narrow as it gets. The Bavarian side hold no points advantage at all over whoever sits immediately below them, a position that leaves little room for a stumble as the campaign develops.
A lead with no cushion
Topping the table while level on points with a rival is an unusual position to be in this early, and it underlines how tightly contested the opening weeks of the season have been. Every fixture from here carries extra weight, since a single dropped point could just as easily hand the top spot to someone else as cement it further for Bayern.
What comes next
With so little daylight between first and second, attention now turns to how Bayern respond in their coming fixtures. Results over the next set of matchdays will go a long way towards showing whether this early position can be turned into something more secure, or whether the Bundesliga is heading for another title race decided in its closing stages.
