Barcelona open up early breathing room at the top of La Liga
Barcelona have moved three points clear at the top of La Liga after five matchdays, giving them the early advantage in what is shaping up to be another closely fought title race.
A three-point cushion this early in the season is far from decisive, but it hands Barcelona a psychological edge as the chasing pack looks to close the gap over the coming weeks.
Plenty of season left
With only five rounds played, there remains a long way to go before the destination of the title becomes clear. Barcelona's rivals will be looking to respond quickly to avoid the gap widening further.
For now, though, Barcelona sit atop the standings, and their position gives them a measure of control as the campaign continues to develop.
